What causes Silver to Tarnish
1. Applying hair colour, permanent solution, etc. while wearing your jewellery
2. Showering with your jewellery on.
3. Body Lotions (Applying any of these after you've put on your jewellery - Perfume, Hair Spray, Sun Tan Lotion, Oils)
4. Physical Activities (Perspiration)
5. Never Taking It off
Caring for your Silver
Remove rings before household chores – detergent can cause a film to build up on the surface which can become difficult to clean, and some detergents can actually damage your jewellery. Try not to go scrambling on rocks around the countryside as silver is a soft metal and contact with a hard surface can dull its lustre and cause dents in the surface. Please remove your jewellery when you go swimming – chlorine can damage many gemstones and precious metals.
Sterling silver will tarnish with time and wear. To clean your silver jewellery use a high quality silver cloth. (do not use silver dip) Jewellery with sandblast, brushed, cross-scratched and dazzle finishes should not be cleaned with a silver cloth, but by using warm soapy water and a soft brush. Store individual pieces separately to avoid scratching. Protect by wrapping in soft fabric and storing in a cool, dry place. Avoid contact with chemicals, perfume, hairspray and deodorant. To bring back sparkle from faceted gemstones use warm water, washing up liquid and a soft toothbrush. Soak and brush inside the back of the setting and rinse. Our products are guaranteed against manufacturing faults, but not misuse. To maintain the condition of your jewellery remove when bathing, swimming or when undertaking manual work.
Pearl Care
Pearl jewellery should be kept apart from other jewellery in pouches or boxes to avoid scratches or other damage.
Pearls should not be exposed to sunlight or the direct heating for long. The outer shell may dry up, causing a change of colour or a loss of luster.
Your should part with your pearl jewellery during your daily shower of bath. The same applies for swimming in pools or sea water. Normally, swimming pool water contains a variety of chemical substances, the sea may not be pollution free.
Basically, your pearl jewellery should add a finishing touch to your appearance AFTER applying make-up and doing your hair. Don’t wear pearls on your skin just after using body lotion. Cosmetics and pearls don’t go well together. Deodorants, sprays, perfumes and creams contain oily or bleaching substances.
No need to wear your pearl jewellery when you are busy with household jobs. Detergents contain chloride or whitener.
After wearing your pearl jewellery wipe the pearls gently with soft tissue or cloth, dipped in alcohol. Alcohol removes the remains of sweat, dust and dirt..
The easiest pearl care is this: place in lukewarm water for 15-20 minutes, 3-4 times a year. A mild dishwashing detergent helps to remove dust and dirt. Rinse with clear water afterwards.
After washing your pearls, leave them to dry on a soft cloth for 24 hours. Room temperature is sufficient.
Every 2-3 years, pearls can enjoy a gentle rub with olive oil to preserve luster.
Restring pearls every two years, but when excessive wear is noticeable once a year is recommended. Experts suggest the use of silk thread. However, nylon thread is an acceptable alternative. For your very fine pearls, the string should be knotted between each pearl to prevent all the pearls in a strand from falling off should a break occur and also keeps the pearls from rubbing against each other.
